From the Artist:
This new print, Deranged Fruit, was inspired by the Billie Holiday song “Strange Fruit” by way of the legendary ska-band Fishbone’s own version “Estranged Fruit.”
When I first heard Fishbone’s version, it knocked my socks off! As I traversed down the path and reached Billie Holidays’s original recording, I found something that stirred something deep in my core. Strange Fruit is a haunting and poetic song that elicits a disturbing visual. It is truly a great piece of art that moves me each time I listen to it.
While I’m useless when it come to creating music, I still want to contribute to the conversation and relate the strange fruit of the past with the very deranged fruit of our present. Our systemically soured systems of power come with a incredible responsibility to protect and serve in our very imperfect communities all while keeping tabs on their own. I do not envy the job of the brave individuals who take up the pursuit, but with the badge and the power come a standard to uphold. It is up to all of us to make sure the bitterness of some does not spoil the bunch.
